ABOUT ST. CROIX | St. Croix is a breathtaking Caribbean island, blessed with white sandy beaches, warm azure water, balmy breezes, and exquisite foliage. Before Europeans came to the Americas, St. Croix was inhabited by Amerindian societies who arrived on the island 2,000 to 4,000 years ago. Christopher Columbus arrived in 1493 hoping to take the island for Spain during an initial unsuccessful attempt that did not end well for Columbus and his crew. St Croix was of great significance to the European nations because of the island’s substantial sugar production at a time when sugar was more valuable than silver! St. Croix’s history spans the rule of six European nations.

TESTIMONIAL: REGARDING BOOK ARTIFACT | THE SOCA YEARS. By Norma Krieger. Testimonial From St. Croix Artist Roy Lawaetz, 2024
Norma Krieger’s initiative to complete the SOCA (Society of Caribbean Artists) book is a significant achievement. SOCA artists continue to pursue their individual paths while the historical group connection continues to exist as this new publication highlights additional interest. Her continual and energetic contribution to Caribbean Art is by now a cherished factoid for many who have received her organizational support and visionary organizational accomplishments.
Artists invariably arrive at an analytical juncture in their careers where they acknowledge those supportive persons who have helped them along their artistic journey. I count Norma Krieger as one of those who, with a spirited mobility, has helped myself and many others in her programs and venues. This recent publication by her certainly attests to this. As time withdraws more and more from its earlier 21st Century beginnings, Norma Krieger’s initiatives she started on St. Croix will become additional recorded testimonies to the validity of many Caribbean artists, wherever they may go, wherever they may exhibit their works abroad. But above all, her unselfish promotional style, stands out as a distinctive legacy to be remembered, and acknowledged.
